INSPIRATION: These
fabrics, primarily from Africa, are
richly textured with deep colors and
gold. They reflect the richness and
power of Egypt’s historical
civilization, and we must remember that
Egypt is Africa, too! (This quilt and
the name were created in 2003, the same
year (but without prior knowledge) that
Paul Theroux published Dark Star Safari,
in which he begins his journey at the
mouth of the Nile and has to remind
everyone he encounters that being in
Egypt IS being in Africa!) |
|
DESCRIPTION:
The work is 100% cotton, machine-pieced,
hand-quilted by the artist. The quilt is
trimmed in a braid that is reminiscent
of the tall head-pieces of the pharaohs. |
