INSPIRATION: The
North Star, or Polaris, is the brightest
star in the Little Dipper. This
particular star seems to remain
stationary throughout the year, even as
the earth revolves…so it was used by
travelers to find their latitude or
position—especially by sailors at sea.
The green fabric is hand-dyed; the
floral batik is from South Africa. The
curved pieces seem to suggest looking
through concave/convex lenses to
“another side” for different
perspectives. The pieces also suggest
sails on a ship symbolizing one’s
journey in Life.
The stars are distorted, as is our
perspective sometimes.
The yellow side border shows people “on
the move.”
Is the Polaris the center orange star or
the only brown-border star at the center
top? What’s your perspective?
