INSPIRATION: The
whirling earth is made of images of
women, in the colors or the earth—blues
and browns—all seeming to come from a
common center point. The corners of the
medallion center are trees, indicating,
perhaps the tree of life which, at its
core, is the same for all of us. The
fabrics used are primarily
African-inspired—the green border is
from Africa, as well as the squares of
brown wax-resist fabric used in the
right side and the background for the
stars and “flying geese.”
The colored binding and backing are
tie-dyed muslin made in Phoenix by a
group of Sudanese refugee women. |
