INSPIRATION: Portal
expresses an attempt to integrate deep
emotions. The “portal or “port-hole” is
a way of seeing through, of escaping the
conflict of the emotions. The
inspiration began with “MamiWata”—the
watery force and origin of Life and the
direction of West. The African fabrics
are richly colored blues which help
convey the feeling of waves of emotion.
Against a white background, the portal,
or hole in the quilt, looks like a full
moon casting light upon the waters. |
