INSPIRATION: The
middle African fabric shows tiny broken
hearts surrounding a power mask—all
bordered in white, symbolic of strength,
cleansing, and purifying. The fabric
strips - log cabin and half-log-cabin
patterns—were all made from pieces
already—not specifically cut for this
design (a mother “makes do”). The
stylish woman figure out to the left
border represents “before” motherhood!”
The red river of tears, with aqua
tear-drops surround the center...and out
of it grows a flower—not especially
beautiful—but all our children are
beautiful in a mother’s eyes. At the top
and bottom are framed “pictures” of
different groups of families. Distorted
corner stars indicate the heavenly
presence, which accompanies motherhood.
Important to note: these works are not
pre-designed. They develop as the fabric
and Spirit move the artist; the
“interpretation” comes after the piece
is completed, and one is able to step
back and look at the piece, meditate on
the symbols and imagery. |
